Boiler Technicians were responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of everything involved in a steam-propulsion system. Reflecting the evolution of naval propulsion systems away from steam power. 

Operates equipment that produces steam for propulsion engines and steam-driven electric power generator.

The Boiler Technician (BT) rating merged with the Machnist's Mate rating on 01`October, 1996.
